Local transport and getting around without a car

Perched on its hill, San Gimignano is best visited without a car: the medieval centre is almost entirely pedestrian, with parking outside the walls from which you walk up or take a shuttle depending on the season. Regional buses link the town to Poggibonsi train station, and tickets and timetables are easy to buy locally. Inside the town, walk to savour the lanes and viewpoints; for the surrounding countryside, a bike or e‑bike is a charming but demanding option. Bring comfortable shoes and check schedules in the low season.
